HYGIEIA was established in Zagreb in 1992 as a result of the pioneering work into intimate hygiene products carried out by Professor Dr. Husein Džanić, founder of Laboratorij Dr. Džanić.

Zincia and Intima were launched as part of the initial HYGIEIA brand at that time and by 1998 Ansoo was added to the HYGIEIA Collection.

Success quickly followed with Emir and Emin Džanić (twin sons of Husein Džanić) driving the business forward and establishing the brand throughout the Balkans by 2005.

Growth of the business was helped significantly by repackaging the brand with unique distinctive bottles in 2003 – giving each product a very strong identity in store.

Distribution was extended to include independent and group pharmacies, drugstores, gift and online channels and by 2007, several HYGIEIA Stores owned by Laboratorij Dr Džanić were established in Croatia.

The last 3 years has seen successful distributors established in a number of key European markets including Scandinavia, Germany and Italy.

In 2007, The Friendly Collection Ltd. of York was appointed as the UK and Ireland distributor for Laboratorij Dr Džanić product ranges including the HYGIEIA Collection. 

HYGIEIA is now becoming an established brand in the UK primarily through mainstream independent pharmacy and quality retailers and is also available through The Friendly Collections own secure website.
